Worked Great
I was torn between vinyl flooring and an epoxy flooring kit. In any application there are pros and cons, especially with quality (and funds). I needed something that would help hold us over until we could get vinyl flooring but would also serve as a floor protectant in the meantime. I ditched the epoxy kit idea as it seemed about 50/50 in terms of effectiveness. I also usually heard the phrase from friends “ya, it turned out alright”. Given the number of kits needed, I didn’t want alright. It was also about 65-75% of the cost of vinyl so I decided I’d save for vinyl.I looked around and this actually got a number of solid reviews on different websites and home improvement sites. I prepped the floor by first vacuuming it and then used ZEP degreaser. I did two passes with it because it seemed like I’d see swirls in the floor. I then did a water rinse (we had drywall recently done, so it was mostly use a fresh water/rinse bucket combo and going through it by hand).I used a 4 inch brush to trim along the walls. Our basement is not a perfect square and with some new walls up it has quadrants so I did two full walls and then rolled out the paint. As I worked my way across the floor, I would get about 75% across them trim out the last wall in that section. This paint is fairly thick. I had roughly 670 square feet to cover. This took 3 gallons using two coats and I would definitely suggest two coats just for durability. I rolled somewhat slowly to make sure I did get any splatter onto the side walls (those were just painted too, different paint). I mostly did an N type pattern, a W wasn’t quite cutting it and was causing it to be too thin by the time I finished doing a W. I worked across to make sure it wasn’t too thick on one side and then took another dip.I tried to add a before and after at the same angle but wasn’t planning on posting a review when I took these so it’s off in terms of angle. The goal is so you can see the condition of the floor after work was done. Then my cleaning method from above is not shown as it didn’t do much that was noticeable (but was needed since the basement was bare concrete for 20 years, couldn’t tell if sealed since water absorbed fairly quick so the sealant may have faded over time). Then theres the finished look of the floor for now (vinyl is the goal, and then some trim).Very pleased and very affordable.

4.0 out of 5 stars Waterproofing Concrete Basement
Reviewed in the United States on July 24, 2022
Love KILZ paint. Easy to go on, spreads really nice. I did everything by the book (cracks, acid wash, etc.) and let it sit, untouched, for about 5 days (after floor was painted), and floor is chipping because of tires on car.

Definitely put a coat of clear epoxy (if you can find any) where your car is going/garage, just remember to scuff the floor before applying Epoxy shield with high grit sandpaper. Easy fix when I find epoxy to use. No complaints.

Added some pictures of the before/after finished waterproofed basement. And pics of the chipped paint.

Took away that basement smell too 😉
